Nissan is reportedly planning to launch a fourth vehicle for the U.S market.

With the Leaf already on sale, a Leaf-based luxury sedan, and a compact van for both commercial and taxi use, have been confirmed. Insiders speculate the fourth model has three possibilities.

First up is a city-car slotting below the Versa, although not being as small as the Smart ForTwo. The vehicle is being co-developed with Daimler for emerging markets.

Secondly, a compact electric sports car similar to the Esflow concept, although this model seems very unlikely as Nissan targets high-volume models.

Lastly, a compact electric crossover or MPV is under consideration, similar to that of the 2010 Townpod EV concept. Executives believe this model could appeal to the crossover-obsessed U.S market.

Before signing anything off, Nissan may want to sell the car overseas, and therefore, has to adapt the model suitably.
