Mitsubishi will debut the all-new Mirage supermini at the 2011 Tokyo motor show.
Previewed from the ‘Global Small Concept’ that debuted at the Geneva motor show earlier this year, the Mirage is a cost-effective B-segment model developed specifically for emerging markets, like the Nissan Micra.
The five-door hatchback measures at 3,710mm long, 1,665mm wide and 1,490mm tall and provides “a comfortable interior space for five adults”, according to the brand.
Mitsubishi used a variety of eco techniques like using lightweight materials throughout, to ensure reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Two three-cylinder petrol engines will be offered in certain markets; a 1.0 litre MIVEC and 1.2 litre. Certain variants will be equipped with start-stop and regenerative braking, alongside a new CVT transmission.
The most thrifty Japanese market model will return fuel economy of 30km/l (85mpg/3.3l/100km). The Mirage will go on sale in Thailand in March 2012, expanding to other markets throughout the year.
